Today's subject of choice is regarding nutrition. Shocker, I know! Majority of us have heard of BCAA's before. BCAA's are branch chain amino acids. They're pretty important for muscle growth and development. They aid in recovery time and prevent muscle soreness. When implementing an exercise regimen, incorporating them into your supplementation is definitely worth considering. BCAA's are composed of three amino acids being Leucine, Isoleucine and Valine. I'll insert a diagram below to demonstrate it a little bit clearer.

Now let' take a look at EAA's, means Essential Amino Acids. EAA's also promote  muscle growth and lean muscle mass. Amino acids are the building blocks to protein. Protein is essential to build muscle in the body. By promoting muscle growth then you will naturally decrease in fat. This shift is what body recomposition is all about. In total there are 20 amino acids. They are broken down into 3 groups. Branch chain amino acids, Essential Amino Acids, and Non-essential amino acids. There are a total of 9 Amino acids and the BCAA's are included in the list. So out of technicality BCAA's are also considered to be EAA's. I'll insert a diagram to more clearly display this.

If BCAA's seem like a bit much you can always get the same amino acids in food products such as eggs, beef, soy and dairy. If you have food allergies to any of those supplementing may be a better route for you. EAA's will enhance your athletic performance and then in turn support increased muscle growth and therefor promote a more lean looking body. By supplementing with EAA's you'd also be getting the BCAA's so really its a win/win situation for you. These supplements have to be taken alongside of a workout regimen in order to see results. Some personal trainers will suggest taking these amino acids right before and right after your workouts to really see the "gains".

Today....were discussing Tabata workouts! So personally Im a bit biased. I absolutely lalalove these workouts. I find them to be so enjoyable and fun. I get a good sweat on but, it doesn't wear my body out.  The older one is, the more prone to injury you may be. So safety is so important while doing high intensity workouts. Majority of you, may have heard of HIIT workouts and the fat burning effects it has. I believe the majority of people participate in this type of regimen because of those fat burning effects. I personally have experienced feeling drained after the workout. I generally don't look forward to HIIT days so Im beyond grateful to have discovered Tabata.

So let's get into the nitty gritty of it all. Let's emerce ourselves here. Tabata is a form of HIIT (high intensity interval training). It usually is higher intensity for a shorter time frame. The reason why this is excellent, is because it allows for explosive energy that gets your heart rate up and then allows you an opportunity to rest before it becomes a bit much. This is also excellent for anyone who is injury prone. When performing at a high intensity, injuries are very probable. For this reason it is of high importance to ensure you are performing the exercises with correct form to avoid injuries and to receive the maximum benefits of the movement on the muscle group being trained.

So what's the verdict? Which one is better for you? HIIT or Tabata? Well it all comes down to personal preference in the end. The studies conducted have shown both have grand fat burning effects on the body. Tabata in the end IS a form of HIIT. I personally enjoy having explosive high intensity movements and a shorter time period of performing it. Both exercises do train the entire body, and multiple muscle groups at once. Both would be considered to be beneficial for the entire body and a time saver. If you enjoy a good sweat session and a challenge, these workouts will do it for you.

Welcome back to a new Holistic approach to wellness blogposttt! Todays subject is about Kinesiology! 

Kinesiology is also known as Exercise Science. It's the study of the effect movement has on the body.  

It analyzes it from various perspectives such as Physiological, Anatomical, Bio-mechanical, and  Neuro-psycological.  Movement has such a healing effect on the body. Essentially this would be a concept similar to what physical therapy is after experiencing injury to a muscle group.

 

The concept is that the body can heal it self.



An unusual thing that can happen if you dance every day - Times of India 


        Movement allows blood to flow and circulate all throughout the body. Moving your body also works as a pump for your lymphatic system. This allows the water within your body to move and ideally exit the body. When no movement is conducted, this water stays still. This allows the water to become stale and essentially collect toxins. This is why Message therapist will recommend for their clients to come see them on a regular basis so "remove the toxins" through message therapy. While they are not wrong, but with movement you would essentially be doing a similar act that would naturally do what the message therapy is doing. This is why its ideal for anyone dealing with an autoimmune condition to move their body to avoid water retention. Honestly movement is great for everyone and the more we move and stay active the better health of our body we will have.

Notice I have been focusing on MOVEMENT and I have not specifically said exercise. This is because Id like to encourage and challenge everyone to increase their level of movement regardless of the current level you are currently at. Maybe you have little to no movement, this article is not to shame you or to make anyone feel bad. Im writing this to show the benefits of MOVING YOUR BODY. Its all about increasing your N.E.A.T. ( Non-exercise activity thermogenesis) This is all the energy spent while not performing traditional exercise. Ever heard of Energy in and energy out? Movement is not just about losing weight or vanity but in reality its about the wellness of your body.

MOVEMENT

-Morning walks

-Lunch break walks

-Evening walks

-Go for a hike 

- Dance in the kitchen while cooking meals ( we all do this) hehe

-Go walk your dog

- Park further away in the parking lot


If you are already a gym buff or a workout queen...then excellent...Id challenge you to take it to the next level and try working out outside or twice a day. Lets just get out there and move. The more movement there is the more even our brains and mental well being well have. Thats an entirely another subject for another day with soooo much science behind it. Many have had traumatic experiences and energy healing can even be used for emotional well being as well or physical illness. Negative energy trapped in ones body eventually turns into Illness.  Im back at it again! This time discussing the leaky gut syndrome. Honestly Im trying to raise awareness of this syndrome because I believe many may have this undiagnosed condition. As you can see on the diagram above. Inside of our gutt, there is a microbiome and within that microbiome we have a gut lining. A normal gutt lining has a pretty solid lining and doesn't let anything through into the intestinal walls. When we have a "Leaky gut" it means our gutt lining has been compromised meaning the lining is not secure anymore so particles of undigested food seep through the lining into the intestines which usually cause inflammation. This inflammation then  alerts the immune system and provokes adverse effects in defense to the inflammation to the abnormal issue occurring within your gutt. This then causes many side effects. I will insert a diagram below explaining this further.

The good news is that there is hope! This can be rectified with the right approach. We have to begin by taking out inflammatory foods such as gluten, dairy, sugar and any additional food intolerances we may have. This is essential to the healing and can not be ignored. So this is my first step to healing. Add fermented foods such as apple cider vinegar and Kimchi or pickles to the diet. Add healthy fats such as Avacados, Fatty fish, olive oil. Lastly Probiotics and probiotics and postbiotics will definitely be needed for repair. L-glutamine and Zinc are essential for healing as well to repair the gut flora.

Symbiotic Smoothiee!



Good Morning friends!


Happy first day of December! New month, fresh new start for new beginnings! Today I really want to discuss the power of a symbiotic diet. Symbiotic organisms are basically two living organism working together or living together in the same environment. As we all know as the discussion of the microbiome has become very popular in the last couple of years. Concerning our gut health microbiome will affect our overall well being. In this microbiome we have both good bacteria and bad bacteria living amongst each other. There is also neutral bacteria that can be influenced by the majority of bacteria in your gut flora. We all heard of the importance of having probiotics in your system. Now pre-biotics have come into discussion as well. Pre biotics are said to be even more essential than probiotics due to the fact that prebiotics work as a fertilizer i your gut flora and assist in creating more probiotics in your gut microbiome. Once the Fertilizer has worked if you implement a good probiotic, then you'll be looking at an awesome digestive system. Having great digestion is so crucial because it is the way we excrete toxins from our body. If our bodies fail to excrete the toxins this way, then it will find other (not so ideal) outlets for example your skin. Ill dedicate an other post concerning that.

The reason why is because when sleeping you are in a fasted state. One you break the fast with beakfast....Hence the name break-fast hehe I know all these years it went over my head too lol When breaking the fast the first thing that hits your gut flora has such a great impact so its best to take this smoothie on an empty stomach for the best results.







Symbiotic smoothie recipe..... Blueberry Coconut Smoothie!

1 handful of blueberries

1 handful of spinach

1 cup coconut water

1 cup coconut milk

2 tsp vanilla extract

2 tsp of Psyllium (prebiotic)

2 tsp of probiotic (glow powder from beauty chef) 

(any powder probiotic of your choice) ( to choose a good probiotic please check the amount of strains contained inside and make sure to refrigerate it as well.)


Optional add ins:

Vanilla plant based protein powder of your choice... to make a protein shake


This smoothie should contain ideally no added sugar or milk since bacteria overgrowth could occur. To keep optimal probiotcs in your system, please follow keto diet for about 14 days while taking this smoothie first thing in the morning. You will see optimized digestion along with glowing skin. This regimen could also be seen as a 14 day detox.

Sleep Matters

Good Night Loves!






 Life is great to live and be in the moment and sure being active and lively has its effects but something is often times overlooked is our sleep cycle. Yes, our sleep cycle! With the popular concept of "Ill sleep when I'm dead" or the ever so popular  "Yolo" we forsook sleeping in order to do other things. Little did we know how devastating this is for our bodies. Yes, I used the word devastating! It truly is, there are booming studies as researchers are taking a deeper look into the circadian rhythm of our bodies and how it affects out body. There are natural behavioral changes that we go through throughout the 24hr period. The majority of us are always plugged in and glancing at screens all day long. Its become such a habit to stay connected, however the blue light on our devices may be altering our sleep patterns. I have noticed how hard it is for me to wind down and actually fall asleep. I really struggle with receiving a good nights rest. Experts recommend that we should be sleeping about 7-9 hours daily. I cant speak for everyone but I know for a fact Im lucky if I get 6 hours of sleep. 

So first things first, lets start to break this down....



What is a Circadian Rhythm?



Circadian Rhythm runs on a 24hr schedule. It focuses on how light naturally affects the body. The name originates from the latin phrase "Circa diem"  translating into the "around the day". In 1729 a scientist named Jean Jacques d' Ortous de Mairan conducted an experiment on a Mimosa plant in a light controlled room and saw how the plant grew and reacted to light controlled settings. It is the same for all living creatures. Our cells run on a biological clock that responds to light. The study of this is called chronobiology. The research from these new studies are revealing to us how deeply our sleep cycles greatly affect our well being. Now since everyone is biologically different, everyone circadian rhythm will be slightly different but generally its similar considering its affected by the light. Considering that its vital that we understand that we will need consciously start winding down and creating a sleep routine to prepare us for a better nights rest. I've inserted a diagram that demonstrates the 24hr cycle.




Create a Night time routine!

1. Start dimming the lights- 2hrs before actually going to sleep

2. No device usage- Start restricting the usage on your devices such as tvs, laptops, phones. The reason is because it emits blue light which will also affect your melatonin levels impeding enhanced sleep.

3. Stop physical activity- about 2 hrs before bed

4. Early Dinners- Try to have dinner in the 5pm to 7pm window to allow your body time to digest and breakdown the food any consumption of food afterwards will disturb your sleep cycle.

5. Take a hot shower- As the day ends our body temperature tends to cool down so by having a hot shower you raise your balance your body temperature therefor enhancing your sleep.

Hormones have often times been overlooked when considering our health. Mainly because of its complexity. As our studies and research advances, so does our understanding of more complex human functions. New studies are showing the importance of achieving hormone balance and how it may be impacting our health goals. There are several factors that can throw your hormones off balance. The reason why this is important is because it could be delaying your weight loss goals or causing other issues to occur such as the following:

You will experience the following if your hormones are out of balance:

1.Acne
2.Insomnia
3.Excessive sweating
4. Weight gain
5. Changes in heart rate
6. Mood Swings
7. Fatigue
8. Irregularities in menstruation


The following are some of the hormones in your system.


Hormones :
1.Insulin- Allows cells to take blood sugar for energy or storage. It is also the main hormone for fat storage. Especially if you are insulin resistant.

6. Neuropeptide- Hormone produced by the brain and the nervous system
7. Glucagon- Hormone produced by the gut when nutrients are deposited into the intestines.
8. Cholecystokinin- A satiety hormone produced by cells in gut
9. Peptide YY- Gut hormone that controls appetite
10. Testosterone- Male major sex hormone
11. Androgen- Hormones contribute to the growth and reproduction
12. Growth Hormone- Controls the bodies growth
13. Melatonin- Regulates sleep and wake cycle.
14. Serotonin-Key hormone in stabilizing our mood, well being and happiness



Balancing your hormones is absolutely essential for overall well being. It is more common for the hormones to be out of balance than to maintain them in balance. Some cause for this is stressful situations,lack of sleep, thyroid issues, unhealthy diet, pregnancy, menopause. Hormones are a delicate part of the endocrine system and the chemistry of it can easily be altered. 






In order to achieve balance with regulating your hormones we can to first consider what affects the hormones. We can begin with nutrition. It is essential to eat enough protein and healthy fats with every meal. A helpful side note is that consuming eggs has so many nutritional components that will make your body very happy. Daily exercise will also assist in regulating your hormones.Skip on the sugar, minimizing your sugar intake will assist in not having insulin spike and mood irregularities not to mention bacteria loves to grow on sugary food and drinks. Consider trying out the Keto diet for about 3 weeks and see if your seeing an improvement overall. Its also super important to prioritize your sleep schedule. Try to get 7-9 hours of sleep daily. I know its challenging but lack of sleep really does a number and get your hormones all kinds of wacky.

While its no secret that blueberries are ridiculously good for your body, now imagine if you make a smoothie with spinach on top of it that tasted absolutely amazing! This is what wellness is all about!Feeling great in the body that we were given, we only have one body and its great to know that we can make minimal changes in our habits that can improve how we feel ultimately allowing us to feel younger. That is why I've named this smoothie Blast from the Past, lets not feel our current age. Lets feel younger than we actually are. Remember when we could stay out all night and still wake up early and function perfectly fine? So many  of us are no longer there, but imagine if our bodies could run at an optimal level as such? So enough of my pep talk, lets get into this amazing antioxidant rich smoothie! Ill first begin by discussing its health benefits for our bodies and then get into this recipe. I do this because I believe if we can understand how these nutrients will impact our lives for the better then it will be encourage us to maintain these healthy changes.

1. Improve Skin!- Blueberries can combat premature aging, Improve wound healing, boost collagen, reduce inflammation such as acne, eczema and psoriasis.

As always I will begin by listing all the amazing health benefits we can have with the new consumption of Pineapples and then after you've become pumped about that well move unto the recipe! -Vitamin Packed!- Pineapple are actually rich in vitamins such as A,K,Zinc,Calcium,Magnesium, B6, Thiamin, Potassium, Riboflavin,Iron just to name a few.

Antioxidant Rich Mango Summer Smoothie!

Summer if finally here! Im so pumped to share this smoothie recipe with you! After the crazy year we have all shared together, We all know how important it is to boost our immunity. With its being summer Ive developed a delicious creamy mango smoothie recipe to boost our immunity and assist us in detoxing and weight loss! GOALS! So before jumping into the recipe, id like to go over some of the health benefits of mango based smoothie.

Health Benefits

-Improves digestion/ aka Goodbye constipation!

-Supports hair and skin

-Rich with numerous vitamins and minerals for your body.


3 Ingredient Mango Recipe:

-1 1/2 cup Frozen Mango

- 2 Handful of baby spinach

-1 tsp of raw honey

- 1/4 cup of Aloe Vera Water

-1/2 cup of Coconut Milk


Additional add ons: Collagen, Vanilla, Scoop of protein powder

Delicious Detox Sprirulina Smoothie!

As we all know now with the constant exposure to toxins, it is of the utmost importance that we take time to detox our bodies.  Wether it be environmental toxins or toxins from our own bodies, the removal of them are so crucial for our overall well being. This would be considered preventative care, that would prevent further disease from developing in our bodies. Rid yourself of all the toxins!

Something that is unavoidable are the constant toxins that our bodies are repeatedly exposed to on a daily basis. Toxins are defined as an antigenic poison or venom derived from a microorganism causing disease. We become exposed to toxins in various ways whether it be externally or internally. Externally exposure can occur through food additives, pesticides, various chemicals, tobacco products, and pollution. External exposure can occur in various forms such as application to the skin, however the majority of toxin enter our bodies through inhalation or otherwise known as breathing. A fun fact is that the majority of beauty products that have fragrance have loads of chemicals that FDA does not have to list. This is a perfect example of how toxins can secretly enter our bodies. Internally toxins can be cause through bodily waste, hormone fluctuations and stress. When speaking about detoxification, its important to say that the liver is the main organ that excretes the toxins from our bodies. Therefor making it one of the most important organ as its function is crucial for our overall well being. Detoxification is an essential bodily process on a cellular level so that our bodies can function properly. Although our bodies do have the ability to do this on its own we can aid the process through doing a cleanse or a detoxification for about a week. Ideally a detox should be conducted for roughly a week.
