Hormones have often times been overlooked when considering our health. Mainly because of its complexity. As our studies and research advances, so does our understanding of more complex human functions. The reason why this is important is because it could be delaying your weight loss goals or causing other issues to occur such as the following:

1.Insulin- Allows cells to take blood sugar for energy or storage. It is also the main hormone for fat storage. Especially if you are insulin resistant.
2. Leptin- Other wise known as the "Satiety hormone" It reduces appetite and makes you feel full or satisfied.
3. Ghrelin- Other wise known as the "Hunger hormone" when your stomach is empty it release a message to the hypothalamus indicating you should eat.
4. Cortisol- Otherwise known as the "stress hormone" mainly because its released when your under stress.
5. Estrogen- The main female sex hormone produced by the ovaries used for regulating the female reproductive system.
6. Neuropeptide- Hormone produced by the brain and the nervous system
7. Glucagon- Hormone produced by the gut when nutrients are deposited into the intestines.
8. Cholecystokinin- A satiety hormone produced by cells in gut
9. Peptide YY- Gut hormone that controls appetite
10. Testosterone- Male major sex hormone
11. Androgen- Hormones contribute to the growth and reproduction
12. Growth Hormone- Controls the bodies growth
13. Melatonin- Regulates sleep and wake cycle.
14. Serotonin-Key hormone in stabilizing our mood, well being and happiness
Balancing your hormones is absolutely essential for overall well being. It is more common for the hormones to be out of balance than to maintain them in balance. Some cause for this is stressful situations,lack of sleep, thyroid issues, unhealthy diet, pregnancy, menopause. Hormones are a delicate part of the endocrine system and the chemistry of it can easily be altered.
In order to achieve balance with regulating your hormones we can to first consider what affects the hormones. We can begin with nutrition. It is essential to eat enough protein and healthy fats with every meal. A helpful side note is that consuming eggs has so many nutritional components that will make your body very happy. Daily exercise will also assist in regulating your hormones.Skip on the sugar, minimizing your sugar intake will assist in not having insulin spike and mood irregularities not to mention bacteria loves to grow on sugary food and drinks. Consider trying out the Keto diet for about 3 weeks and see if your seeing an improvement overall. Its also super important to prioritize your sleep schedule. Try to get 7-9 hours of sleep daily. I know its challenging but lack of sleep really does a number and get your hormones all kinds of wacky.
